Rolex Country Codes (LC): A Guide to the Codes on Your Warranty Card

You turn over the warranty card of your Rolex and see it: a short code, two or three digits, printed somewhere in the corner. LC 070. Or LC 800. Or perhaps LC 150. What does it mean? Does it matter? Does it affect the value of your watch?

Rolex country codes are one of those details most owners never notice — until they do. And then they want to know everything.

What Is a Rolex Country Code?

A Rolex country code, also known as the “Rolex Client Number” or LC, was a code printed on warranty cards until 2020. This code indicates which country the watch was originally shipped to by Rolex from Switzerland.

On models from before 2007, the LC appears next to the word “Garantie”. On watches made after 2007, the country code appears at the top under “N Client”. From June 2020, new warranty cards were introduced without these codes.

Important: a country code says nothing about the quality or value of the watch. Every Rolex watch is made in Switzerland, regardless of its final destination.

Why Are Country Codes Interesting?

For collectors, the country code tells a story. It’s the birth certificate of the watch — where it first officially ended up. A Rolex with LC 150 (Japan) that turns up in the Netherlands has a journey behind it. An LC 070 (Netherlands) is a local.

Some collectors prefer certain country codes, often due to the perception that watches from certain markets are better maintained, or simply for sentimental value.
